Should this be a thing? Should this be a HILARIOUS thing?
Do my hilariterrible jokes have a future on Substack?
I remembered this newsletter, Interesting Skull, exists: should it be anything? I’ve left Twitter, for a lot of reasons, but would still like some way of spewing excellent/rubbish jokes into the world. There are only a handful of people subscribed to this (Hello, I am Mike, I tried a self-promotional newsletter a few summers ago, it never really found its feet), but perhaps it could be turned into a vehicle for my glorious jokes. For instance:
All of us at Try To Invent A Helicopter Club have been attempting to figure out how best to make sure everyone does their fair share of cleaning. I said, “Perhaps we should have a rota system,” and they all said “YES WE KNOW.”
Or, like:
"I'm going to a festival to see my favourite pop star, Daniel."
"Bedingfield?"
"No, I have booked a Travelodge for the evening of the festival at which Mr Powter is performing."
Or, perhaps:
I said to my friend, “I can't believe that you were the model who used to advertise a certain kind of sleigh.”
She said, “I think you've been misled.”
I said, “Oh, I thought you'd been Miss Sled.”
Is this the avenue for getting these nonsense jokes out of my system? I don’t know. My current system (WhatsApp them to two friends, both of whom are very much over it) feels unsustainable. If an email showed up once a month or so in 2023 with a dozen of these in, would that be welcomed? What if it also had stuff in it that was good?Would you tell people about it? Would it provide a great promotional platform for all the exciting work I don’t quite have yet but might?
Or should I just — and this could be the answer — keep my stupid shit to my stupid self and leave everyone alone?
